Zoom, who's real name is Mark Zumberg, has been performing locally in St. Petersburg, Tampa, Clearwater, Tarpon Springs, Clearwater Beach and all of the Tampa Bay area, as well as around the United States, for over 25 years.
Born in Detroit and influenced by the Motown sound, Mark began his early musical journey listening to Rhythm and Blues and pounding on the family piano. After moving to St. Petersburg, FL he began his music carreer by playing drums in his first group and, over time, picking up an acoustic guitar. As he honed his acoustic guitar skills he developed a rhythmic style that combined elements of Folk, Rock and R&B.
Whether you are looking for current material by Contemporary Music artists such as Dave Mathews, John Mayer, Bob Schneider and Peter Mulvey or the Folk Music influenced styles of James Taylor, Bob Dylan or Classic Rock Music by artists like Jimi Hendrix, Jethro Tull or Led Zepplin, Mark can give you what you need.
Keepin' a rock steady beat, Mark can crank it up to a fever pitch, or lay it down mellow for a softer mood. Whether you need music to rock the house, or just want to create a subtle ambiance, Zoom can tailor an evening to match your needs.
Here's the heart of the music. Mark has been playing the same guitar for 14 years. It was handmade in Kirkham, England in 1978 by Fylde Guitars. Each "model" Fylde builds is named after a William Shakespeare character and Rodger Bucknall, the owner, says "I have tried to match the names with the guitars according to their individual characters." This one is a Caliban. In "The Tempest - Prospero vs. Caliban", an essay written by Ng E-Ching, he states, "Caliban was born of a witch" and is "a creature born from passion. Caliban responds almost wholly to passions, feelings of pleasure -- his senses" Very fitting, as it is how this guitar responds to Mark's passion that truly gives it it's unique sound.
Zoom is available as a solo acoustic act or as a duo with his long time friend and musical partner Sal Belloise. Sal and Zoom have performed together, on and off, for over 23 years and can fill a room as well as many much larger bands. Sal's lead guitar work and flute add a nice compliment to Mark's big sound, and their harmonies are honed to a fine edge from years of performing together.
